A great day

Friday March 31. Day 27.  Esparanzo to Van Horn 55 miles or 85 km. Day 3 in Texas.

After a restless night because of the intense wind we began the day. The road was flat for the first few miles with a tailwind.  A turn to the left and the headwind made biking difficult and slow. Another turn and there was our tailwind again. Within 10 km there was the promised gas station and restaurant.  Camping would have been challenging so the horse farm was the right choice.

We climbed a little but nothing too hard. We rode on the frontage road beside the Interstate 10 so it was noisy but safer.

The wind again was crazy. How crazy? For miles I didn't have to peddle and still moved 25 km per hour. Just awesome.

The scenery was about the same than yesterday except more like a desert. Not boring at all when you look closely. There were so many beautiful flowers blooming.

At around 1 pm we arrived in Van Horn, a decent town of about 6000 people. Yet to find a grocery store was a challenge. Only one small store that we accidentally had passed by. Unfortunately we needed to bike back 4 km against the wind but got our food.

Now to find a camping that would provide us with a barricade from the wind. Two RV parks didn't take tents. The 3rd one said yes but we had to pay $25.00 for one tent and in the full wind. I wasn't happy. So the bargaining started. But no budging. Rita, a traveling woman with a motor home invited us to stay with her. We said yes!

Several women came by inquiring about our travels. One brought a bottle of wine and things are looking really good. I have to behave though as I need to climb a ladder to get to my bed tonight.

Lots of laughs, lots of good company, and lots of love.
