Heavy rain, lovely hosts and great music

Zero mileage. Simmi Valley. 

I slept till 730 today. Felt so good. Homemade yogurt and coffee were waiting for me. It was raining hard so a good day to finish numerous small projects  e.g drying tent, doing laundry and buying some groceries. Bob drove us to the grocery store while our clothes were in the washing machine. I reorganized my panniers, charged my battery and cleaned my bike. And I finally was able to get caught up on my blogs.

A lovely lunch of stew and bread sticks were served. Feeling so spoiled.

An afternoon of sharing bike stories was soon to follow. Barb and Bob ride recumbent bikes.  And we don't get tired of telling and listening to each others adventures. This evening we need to get organized for tomorrow as the show must go on.

Can not wait to get it in my hands. Tomorrow, June 7th I fly from Toronto to Amsterdam to start my next cycling adventure. Solo from Reahus Holland to Hirtshals Denmark from where I will take a ferry to Bergen Norway. 900 km. In Bergen my friend Odd Martin will meet me. So stay tuned.

Goodbye New Mexico, hello Texas

Wednesday March 29. Day 25. Radium Spring to West El Paso. 53 miles or 85 km. It was freezing cold overnight and when we woke up it was once again 3 degrees below zero. I could see my breath and my fingers became numb during packing. Vicki was ready before me and Debbie and John, the home owners, called here inside. I quickly finished and when I walked into their home a roaring fire awaited me. Vicki and I sat in front of the fire warming our cold hands while my heart was filled with warmth. What kind and hospitable people John and Debbie are.                                                                       Around 8 am we left after saying our goodbyes. My final blog

Wednesday May 3rd. Buffalo to home. The Amtrak train from New York to Buffalo was on time. The train was only half full so lots of space. There was no cafeteria car so no coffee. Yet at some point we had a fresh air break for 30 minutes and there was a coffeeshop. Happy for this opportunity. The rest of the ride went fairly smooth with the exception of the engine shutting down twice.  We arrived in Buffalo around 12.30 am and we're told to wait till a new crew came on board which took some time. Finally we were allowed to disembark but I had to wait for my bike. I was wearing my shorts (hadn't thought that far in advance) and nearly froze. Rain, hail and strong wind! This is Buffalo. Harry and Jack were waiting for me. Jack was so happy to see me. Lots of licks and curling up on my lap. Yes Jack I missed you as well.  At 3 am we were home.
