Headwind

Thursday April 6. Day 32. Del Rio to Bracketsville. 44 miles or 70 km. Day 9 in Texas.

Jannie had our coffee ready with a delicious banana nut muffin. It was going to be a fairly short and eady ride today so I tried to ignore the crazy wind. It woke me up early as the trailer was moving and the front made a weird noise. Oh and did I tell you that it was a headwind?

After a group photo by our photographer Down we said our goodbyes to another fantastic host family Mark and Jannie. I had a great time.

The route was easy. Just follow highway 90 east. It was busy though and noisy as well. Too many 18 wheelers zooming by. And the speed limit, just like everything else in Texas, is BIG. Holding tight on my handlebar was necessary. And there was not much to see as far as nature was concerned.

Around noon we stopped for lunch at the side of the road. Nowhere to sit. Sick and tired of standing we sat down on the railroad tracks. It didn't take long before a worker stepped out of his truck, put on his hard head and walked over to us. "Ladies, ladies a train is coming. You can't sit on the tracks. It will be here any minute". So we stood a little while longer waiting for a return phone call to arrange a place for tonight. The train came 50 minutes later while we already were back on our bikes.

As we arrived in Bracketsville we received the call that we could stay at the Frontier Baptist church. Bracketsville is a very nice little town. I smelled fresh cut grass, reminding me of home. There are mature green trees indicative of more moisture than in the dessert. And guess what, rain overnight and tomorrow.

I am comfortable with my bed made, supper eaten and a cup of hot tea ready to be consumed.
